Labor DaySince today is Labor Day in North America, I wanted to take this opportunity to mark the holiday. Labor Day was created not as a symbolic last day of summer but to honor the contributions of working men and women. The holiday was created by the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity and well-being of our country.
We can thank labor unions for many things most (admittedly not all) North American workers of today take for granted, whether they are unionized or not. Such as worker safety regulations, workmen's compensation laws, overtime pay, company-provided benefits and the weekend.
